Olly Newport

I first saw these guys live when they were supporting My Morning Jacket at the Roundhouse. Took me by great surprise, a tidy album filled with very similar but enjoyable passionate lyrics and harmonies - they could happily narrate my life. 

The track I’ve posted “Rivers and Roads” particularly hits home to me because this is possibly the year when I move out from my parents house and run head first into the big wide world of cars, cats, Cheerios, and serial adultery.*

The song is about friends moving away, and the line that particularly gets me is: 

[…] a year from now we’ll all be gone,
all our friends will move away,
and they’re going to better places,
but our friends will be gone away,

[…] been talking bout the way things change,
and my family lives in a different state,
and if you don’t know what to make of this,
then we will not relate.
